The National Institute for Health Research (the research arm of the NHS) is looking for help from:

  • a patient with a leg ulcer
  • a carer of a patient with a leg ulcer

Dear Leg Ulcer Charity,

I am writing to you from the National Institute for Health Research to offer an interesting opportunity to get involved.  We are the research arm of the NHS and give out funding for research.  In order to make sure the research is relevant to patients, we ask patients and carers to comment on our proposals.

We are looking for a patient or carer who has long-term experience of leg ulcers – to read through and comment on a proposal for research into treatments for the condition.  We are able to offer an honorarium payment for this work of £50.00.  No previous research or medical experience is required, the person would just need to comment from a lay person’s point of view.  We would send the proposal to them by email and they can do the work from home, in their own time.  We would need their comments back by a deadline to be confirmed (probably mid-February).

I would be grateful if you could advertise this opportunity to your members as soon as possible (due to the short deadline).

If you would like to take up this opportunity, please contact:
