The Leg Ulcer Charity was founded by Prof Mark Whiteley, a venous surgeon, with the aim to identify which patients could be permanently cured by venous treatments. Approximately half of the patients with venous leg ulcers can get a permanent cure with the relatively simple local anaesthetic surgery.

The Lindsay Leg Club Foundation has a holistic approach to everyone with leg ulcers as well as their support network. They provide education and an environment where patients can get their leg ulcers tended and dressed as well as getting information on exercise, nutrition, mobility and many other factors are essential for quality of life when living with a leg ulcer.

Despite the difference in approaches, the end result of the three days was a true meeting of minds.

All of the participants, both lecturers and delegates, found the experience and exchange of ideas to be extremely useful.

Feedback from delegates coming to learn was extremely positive. Many said that they had learnt huge amounts that they would be able to take back immediately to their patients to improve patient care.

Further Leg Ulcer Conferences

Representatives from the Leg Ulcer Charity have been invited to the annual general meeting of The Lindsay Leg Club Foundation in September this year. And of course, this has been reciprocated with The Lindsay Leg Club Foundation being invited to co-host the leg ulcer stream of the College of Phlebology International Veins Meeting 2018 next 14-16 March 2018.

This meeting truly showed how a conference that brings different views together, can enhance everybody’s understanding and practice for the benefit of patients.
